Employers

There are around forty construction related companies based in Torbay – many of which are small companies and sole traders – as well as the large national and international firms that operate in the area. Around 1500 Torbay residents work in the construction sector.

Build Torbay can help contractors develop and deliver employment and skills plans on projects in Torbay. Support is available to help employers recruit and train a local workforce and achieve their social value and corporate social responsibility targets.

Build Torbay supports the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Client Based Approach which provides an easy-to-follow blueprint for employment and skills plans on contracts over the value of £1m.

It’s not just large corporate firms that can benefit, smaller sub-contractors and sole traders can get help with their recruitment and training needs or can take part in a shared apprentice scheme that provides them with committed and hardworking apprentices over a short contract.

The Build Torbay Project Coordinator is on hand to work with contractors in developing their employment and skills plans and to help smaller businesses make links with the Build Torbay partnership family. Contact Lucy Lewis on lucy.lewis@torbay.gov.uk
